Biography of Kevin Belter
In the mid-1990s, Kevin Belter worked with a professional illustrator and writer to produce three issues of the Spooky comic books. Sgt. Spooky: K-9 Crimestopper details the adventures of Spooky the Dog Catcher as he splits his time between defending the city against corruption and building lasting relationships with his friends. The concept for Spooky the Dog Catcher, (inspired in-part by Kevin’s real life dog of the same name) was conceived while Kevin was earning his Associates degree in music and video business. This achievement speaks greatly to Kevin’s tenacity and doggedness (pun intended) since Kevin has also had to overcome the challenges of living with a learning disability and late-diagnosed dyslexia.
Kevin has already distributed over 85,000 copies of his Spooky comic series since releasing the first issue. Additionally, his first children’s coloring book was an award-winner in a regional contest and the project has also received favorable recognition from Marvel Comics. Currently, the books continue to sell through his website, www.k9spooky.com. To date, Sgt. Spooky has received thousands of letters from enthusiastic readers, making it clear that this is something very special.
Today, Kevin is focused on bringing Spooky to the big screen and to children around the world. Currently, there are opportunities for apparel, toys, animated series, and other marketing tie-ins. Always looking for ways to better himself and the people around him, Kevin also shares his passion about the power of pursuing dreams through his volunteer work, which includes a longtime association with Adults with Muscular Dystrophy. He continues to be grateful for and guided buy his faith, family, and friends.
